Abstract
This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence on the jurisprudential process of ijtihād and the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (uṣūl al-fiqh). With the rapid advancement of modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, the application of these technologies in the derivation of Sharīʿa rulings and the interpretation of religious texts has enhanced the accuracy, speed, and comprehensiveness of the ijtihād process. The findings, based on natural language processing algorithms, indicate that artificial intelligence can extract fundamental concepts from jurisprudential texts with an accuracy exceeding 92%. However, several challenges remain, including difficulties in understanding abstract and complex concepts such as maṣlaḥat al-niẓām (public or systemic interest), interpretive disagreements in ijtihād, algorithmic biases, privacy concerns, and the lack of transparency in decision-making processes (the so-called Black Box problem). This study seeks to integrate the technical capabilities of artificial intelligence with the insight and interpretive expertise of jurists by proposing a three-layered model consisting of data processing, interactive analysis, and final decision-making. The research methodology is based on systematic review and comparative analysis, drawing upon both classical and contemporary sources. The results suggest that artificial intelligence can serve as a supportive tool in facilitating the derivation of Sharīʿa rulings. Nevertheless, the ultimate validity and authority of legal opinions (fatwas) still require the supervision, approval, and judgment of qualified and knowledgeable jurists.
